Dianne is going to be facilitating a unique workshop on loss next weekend. Here are the details:
Living with the Loss of a Child, a writing workshop, will be led by PEI Poet Laureate Dianne Hicks Morrow on Saturday, August 17 at the International Children’s Memorial Place (ICMP), at Scales Pond, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
While every loss brings grief, the loss of a child breaks the circle of life: parents are supposed to die before their children. “Writing can be an aid to healing. Using the natural world at the ICMP, participants will do guided writing exercises to explore loss and be surprised by what they discover. They can choose to do their writing in either prose or poetry, or a combination,” says Morrow.
Morrow is PEI’s fifth poet laureate. Her latest book of poetry, What Really Happened Is This: A Poetry Memoir, won a 2012 PEI Book Award. Her other books include the non-fiction Kindred Spirits: Relationships that Spark the Soul (2005). A past-president of the PEI Writers Guild, she has given readings and workshops across Canada, and was presented the Award for Distinguished Contribution to the Literary Arts on Prince Edward Island in 2008.
There is no cost to attend, but pre-registration is required as soon as possible. To register, or for more information, please email firstname.lastname@example.org or, if no email access, phone 902-628-7363.
